About Edward

Edward Flak’s journey began in New York, where he spent his early years before moving to Florida while he was still in high school. The move marked the start of a new chapter that would eventually lead him into a long and meaningful career in emergency services.

After graduating from high school, Edward worked in the auto body and paint industry while pursuing a different path that called to him. He enrolled in both fire academy training and EMT school, determined to build a career in public safety. His commitment paid off when he began what would become a 30-year career as a firefighter and paramedic.

Throughout his time in the fire service, Edward built a reputation for reliability, leadership, and skill. Over the years he completed many courses at the Florida State Fire College, earning a number of state certifications that strengthened his expertise in the field. These included certifications as an EMT, Paramedic, Fire Officer, Hazardous Materials Technician, Instructor, Fire Inspector, and Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting specialist.

Edward’s dedication and leadership did not go unnoticed. In 2006, after many years of service, he was promoted to the rank of Captain. In this role, he helped guide and mentor younger firefighters while continuing to respond to emergencies and protect the community he served. His final station assignment before retirement was at an airport, where his specialized training in aircraft rescue and firefighting was especially valuable.

While building his firefighting career, Edward also pursued entrepreneurial ventures, running small businesses alongside his full-time work. These experiences allowed him to develop skills in management and customer service, complementing the leadership skills he used every day as a firefighter.

Education remained an important part of Edward’s journey. He earned an Associate in Science degree in Emergency Medical Services from Pasco/Hernando State College. Later in his career, he returned to that same college in a new role. Edward accepted a position as an EMT Instructor, where he spent 16 years teaching and mentoring students. Even after retiring from the fire department in 2019, he continued sharing his knowledge and experience with future emergency responders.

Outside of his professional life, Edward values faith, family, and staying active. He enjoys spending time involved with his church and giving back to his community. He is also an avid golfer and appreciates the time the sport allows him to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
